Thank You — For the Saturdays
Dear Miriam, I was looking at our volunteer hours log this morning and realized you've shown up for 22 consecutive Saturday mornings. Twenty-two. I wanted to pause long enough to tell you we notice, and that it matters in ways you probably don't see from inside the kitchen.
Your Saturdays are the shift that prepares the weekend meals for three community centers and the shelter on Broad Street. That's roughly 340 meals per Saturday — so your 22 Saturdays add up to about 7,500 meals since January. But the real number isn't the meals. It's the consistency. Most of our volunteer shifts turn over every three months. The clients who come to the 4th Street Senior Center on Sunday mornings have seen the same food, made with the same care, by the same hands, for five and a half months now. That steadiness is rare, and it matters to them more than any of us realize. So: thank you. For the Saturdays. For the steadiness. For showing up.
