Meet Beatrice. She Arrived With Three Broken Ribs.
Dear friend, The animal control officer who called us on a Tuesday morning in September didn't even bother to describe the dog. She just said, "I need you to come get her. I'll wait." When we arrived, we understood why. Beatrice was a nine-year-old German shorthaired pointer, weighed 38 pounds, had three broken ribs, and was shaking so badly our volunteer cried in the parking lot.
Six weeks later, Beatrice weighs a healthy 52 pounds. The ribs have healed. She's in a foster home in Summerville with a retired couple who have already told us they'd like to adopt her. Her application is in. Beatrice's story costs us about $1,800 — the emergency surgery, the rehab, the heartworm treatment she also needed, and the six weeks of boarding and food and medicine before the foster placement. We take on 40 to 50 dogs like her every year. The math is relentless. Before December 31, we're trying to raise $22,000 to cover the 2026 medical fund. That's the pot of money that lets us say yes when the animal control officer calls at 7am on a Tuesday. Please — help us keep saying yes.
Will you give before year-end so we can keep saying yes?
